Okay, so here's the thing: I LOVE SNOW. I really, really do. But holy crap, you guys. JUST. WHAT IS THIS IDEK.



(That is 45-60 cm for you metric people, and that's on top of the 2+ feet we got the other day. SNOWPOCALYPSE OMG.)

But! I am in a fabulous mood today despite SNOWMAGEDDON. I'm going on a mini vacation this weekend to see some of my favorite people in the whole world, aka my sister, my mom and my niece. The only thing that is for sure on the agenda is staying up late with my sister drinking wine and talking for many hours = ONE OF THE BEST THINGS EVER. So, yay!

I am still working on the drabble prompts from yesterday's post, so if you requested something, it's coming. I PROMISE. Also, it is possible that my wrangst has resolved itself. WE SHALL SEE. In any case, I had lots of fun with the DVD commentary meme, so if you still want to ask me to babble about any of my fics, GO RIGHT AHEAD :D

UGH, YOU GUYS. I am suffering from some kind of writing angst (wrangst?) right now. It is just. IDEK. Not writer's block exactly, but something else AND IT IS DRIVING ME CRAZY D:

So! In an attempt to snap out of it, I am stealing this meme from hermette. It made the rounds a couple months ago and I never posted it, but perhaps talking about fic will help me write fic? I CAN HOPE ANYWAY.

Pick a paragraph (or any passage less than 500 words) from any fanfic I've written, and comment to this post with that selection. I will then give you a DVD commentary on that snippet: what I was thinking when I wrote it, why I wrote it in the first place, what's going on in the character's heads, why I chose certain words, what this moment means in the context of the rest of the fic, lots of awful puns, and anything else that you'd expect to find on a DVD commentary track.

All of my fics are here. I am more than happy to discuss even the filthiest of paragraphs (AS A MATTER OF FACT THEY HAPPEN TO BE MY FAVORITE KIND OF PARAGRAPHS), so pick anything you like. You can also ask me questions about anything I've written if, you know, you have always been wondering why Arthur came so fast that one time OR ANYTHING ELSE DEEP AND MEANINGFUL :D

ALSO. If you do not feel like finding a paragraph (BUT YOU TOTALLY SHOULD BECAUSE I THINK IT WILL BE FUN. WELL, FOR ME ANYWAY) I'll also take drabble prompts up to some number which I have not yet determined. Leave me a pairing and a one word or short phrase prompt, and I will write SOMETHING even if I have to fight for every word.

So! In yesterday's post, a couple people asked for pictures of the snow. I ran out to Whole Foods to grab a few things, and while I was there, I took a walk to get some pictures. The roads were pretty clear for the most part, and so were the sidewalks. The worst part was trying to cross the streets where all the filthy grey sludge was pushed off to the side from the plows.

It was pretty chilly out (25 F, -4 C) and while most people were wearing hats and coats and heavy boots, I did see a couple girls in miniskirts and ballet flats which, I mean. NOT REALLY A GOOD IDEA.

HOLY SHIT THERE'S A LOT OF SNOW OUT THERE.

The official snowfall total was 28.5 inches (72 cm) making it the second biggest snowstorm in the history of Philadelphia. So, if you live in Utah or Maine or Alaska, or somewhere else where two and a half feet is just another Saturday, then go ahead and laugh. BUT TO US THIS WAS A BIG DEAL OKAY.

I pretty much stayed in and enjoyed the pretty from the couch, but tomorrow I guess I have to get off my ass and shovel. Every time it snows, I wait for the neighborhood kids to come by and offer to shovel for cash, but they never do. WTF is that? When I was a kid, we were always running around trying to get the neighbors to pay us, only they never did. Now here I am willing to pay good money so I can be LAZY and they're nowhere to be found. WHERE ARE THE ENTREPRENEURS OF THE NEXT GENERATION?

Okay you guys, I am blocked. BLOCKED I TELL YOU. Aside from some comment fic and BJ/CM ridiculous porn, I have not written a single word since I finished the pinch hits for camelotsolstice. AND I AM GETTING REALLY FRUSTRATED OKAY.

SO! It's Friday. I am home now after successfully escaping from the grocery store unscathed. You would think this would be a given, but apparently not, since there was some kind of smackdown going on in the bread aisle. There's a citywide freakout going on thanks to the impending BLIZZARD OMG.

ANYWAY the point is that I am all ready to get snowed in and write some fic, specifically spanking fic for kinkelot only the words are stuck D:

OKAY. So earlier tonight, derryere sent me this link. My reaction was basically ASDFGHJK. I MAY HAVE SQUEAKED.

Almost exactly a year ago, I went looking for some pictures of Bradley James. As you can see, Google was NOT EXACTLY HELPFUL. I was still finding my way around fandom, which was a lot smaller in those days, and Bradley was just not all that famous yet.

Today, fandom has grown to the point where it's hard to turn around without stumbling across Bradley pics, and a Google image search yields much different results. AS FAR AS I'M CONCERNED, THESE ARE BOTH VERY GOOD THINGS :D

But going back to last year's search for a moment, what I really want to know is, WHO IS THIS GUY? I have decided that he must be some kind of low budget porn star named Bradley James, and now he's all annoyed that someone with his name is more famous than he is. Probably he is constantly getting calls or emails looking for the other Bradley, and he has to grit his teeth and reply, "No no no. I am Bradley James the PORN STAR. Perhaps you would recognize my washboard abs or my tendency to lounge around in my underwear? No, I have never played Prince Arthur, but I am very skilled with a sword IF YOU RECEIVE MY MEANING. AND! Syfy is going to air both the first and second seasons!! Season 1 will air in March, then season 2 will premiere on April 2. Do you remember the epic rewatch parties we had last time it aired on TV? THAT WAS SO MUCH FUN, YOU GUYS!

I just typed up like five bullet points and erased them all because, let's face it, I don't think most of you come here to read about my car repair woes or how much I really loved the hummus and veggie sandwich I had for lunch. ONTO MORE EXCITING THINGS.

While writing my camelotsolstice fic, I discovered that I really have a thing for Arthur/Merlin/Leon. miakun wrote me some double penetration comment porn which was awesome, and now I want more because I am very, very greedy. FOR REAL. SOMEONE SHOULD WRITE SOME KINKY THREESOME PORN BECAUSE HELLO THAT WOULD BE HOT.

Speaking of kinky porn, the spanking kinkelot challenge is running until February 14, so there is still plenty of time to post your fics and art. I mean, okay. IDK what you have heard, but it might be possible that I had something to do with the theme? IT'S HARD TO SAY REALLY. But the bottom (HAHA) line is that I sort of desperately want oodles and oodles of spanking fic YES PLEASE. ALSO ART. So attention writers and artists: PRETTY PLEASE WITH A CHERRY ON TOP? I could easily be tempted into writing fic based on art, especially if it involves someone getting bent over someone else's knee OH YES.

It’s the hottest summer in Camelot’s history. Arthur is confused about what he likes, Merlin tries to help him figure it out, but neither one of them has a clue what they really want.

I feel like I have a lot to say about this, but it’s probably all ridiculously self-indulgent. When I first got the assignment, I decided I wanted to work with the river prompt. A couple months ago, I wrote a little pornlet about Arthur and Merlin on the side of a lake. It was just a couple hundred words and didn't have any story to it, but that image stayed in my head, and served as a very loose inspiration for this fic.

I said in my year in review post that this was the hardest fic I wrote last year, and it’s absolutely true. There was a lot of angst, mainly because I really struggled with Arthur’s POV. It’s hard to write emotionally stunted boys when there is so much they don’t admit even inside their own heads D: But really, leupagus basically saved the fic from terrible things with her insane skills. She managed to tell me what sucked and why I needed to change it and she only made me cry a little.

The scene toward the end at the river was something that I had in my head before anything else, and I built the whole story around that. Writing that scene was really difficult because I had been picturing it in my head for ages, and I wanted it to come out just right. In the end, I'm happier than I thought I would be given the way I felt when I was halfway through writing and flailing around like a lunatic.

I also had a lot of help from lamardeuse and kelene with their amazing beta and Britpicking skills. derryere was there with me almost every minute as I wrote, so I could ASDFGHJKL at her and ask increasingly ridiculous and inane questions like APPROXIMATELY HOW MANY PARTICLES OF DIRT WOULD BE ON ARTHUR’S BOOT BUCKLES AFTER A DAY OF RIDING IN THE WOODS I MUST KNOW THE FIC DEPENDS ON IT and she always had an answer and never told me I was crazy ♥


Try to Stay Blind
Uther/Morgana, NC-17, ~1500 words, written for firthgal
Uther is frustrated when Morgana ends up in his office again.
Warnings: headmaster/student, age difference (all characters are of age in the UK)

I wrote this as a pinch hit near the end of the fest. Uther/Morgana is not a pairing I’ve written before, and that was a little difficult because I wanted to get the dynamic between them just right. It’s tricky because of all that happened in the second season with Morgana. I wanted to preserve the relationship between them and transfer it to the modern setting, but I also had to make it fit with the roles they had in the fic. ANYWAY THAT IS WAY TOO MANY WORDS ABOUT SUCH A SHORT FIC.

Arthur returns to Camelot after a long journey away (this is perhaps the lamest summary ever; it’s just porn, really)

This was a pinch hit that I wrote at literally the final hour. I really loved all of bewarethesmirk’s ideas and kinks, but unfortunately I was not able to work in as many of them as I would have liked because they would have required a lot more words than I had time for. Despite the tight timeline, I HAD SO MUCH FUN WRITING THIS. It just so happens that I know a little bit about what bewarethesmirk likes, and that means I got to write some filthy rimming. AND WHAT COULD BE BETTER THAN THAT I ASK YOU.

Anyway, I had lots of fun with the fest this year, and I hope it continues for many years to come. Thanks to faynia and auroraprimavera for all of their hard work, and for being so understanding with extensions, and also to everyone who participated :D
